self portrait

hi everyone! it's emma hrabovsky. I was inspired by an artist named Alice Neel and in her portraits she uses lots of color to capture the feeling of the person who she is painting. I wanted to incorporate her style by adding in color but also stick with my style! I want to do a charcoal piece because I haven't done too many charcoal pieces yet. Im not sure what I should put in the background yet....anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking maybe a Forrest type background or something that's meaningful to me. I am also going bigger on this piece to challenge myself!

  1. I think bigger sounds great and will be a good challenge. Don't be afraid to keep looking at Alice Neel's work.she has some great blue outlines around her figures..could you incorporate some fun colored line as well? I like the idea of your background being a forest, perhaps you can think of a particular place to gain inspiration from. -Ms.B
