Mythology piece: Merman

Lily~ Meh. I'm kind of happy with this piece. Theme: Mythological creatures with attention to detail, inspired by a significant word. The hand wasn't big enough in the beginning and that threw the entire set of proportions off. Oh well. Ignore my cat. He photo-bombed. And yes, the white stuff is bone. I know I have a weird look on magical creatures. Just ignore it. If you think this is weird........

Q1) Should I add more blood to the water?
Q2) How should I work the tail. I like it, but it needs something else.

  1. I think you mentioned this in class, but there's one small blue mark over one of the fingers that you should probably get rid of to put the hand back into the foreground. And I'd hate to suggest this, but you did go super-ham on scale detailing with the dragon/wyvern/whatever it was piece...mayhaps try it again with the tail?

P.S.: Your cat looks adorable. And pissed.

  2. I really like the idea of your piece! I agree with Jake about putting the hand in the foreground. Maybe you could add an outline (for emphasis) or make the fingers curve. I think the tail looks good, but should be pushed into the background by maybe some darker colors on the tip of it.

  3. I think if you do the line work like you did with the last project on the tail it would really make it stand out.... maybe in white this time? I also feel like the water could be a tad more water-esque. Idk how though. Really loving your theme pieces dude.

  4. I agree with what Makena is saying! I do really like both of these pieces, they work well together. maybe you could make the tail a little bit thicker with more details? looks good overall!

  5. Your cat is so cute! I really like the blue you used in this project! It really helps the focal point pop! I think you could make the tail just a little bit thicker and with detail! Plus, for the blood I think you should make it a little brighter?!
