Project 8

Once again, my theme is the observation of how emotion and consciousness relate to human identity.

The first photo is my project, and the second is a reference photo I took last summer while visiting my grandparents' super rural Greek village.

Basically, the idea behind this project is to relate self and identity to material possessions. To give you some insight to the subject of consciousness/to this project, here are some quotes I've incorporated into my piece by a super rad neuroscientist named Antonio Damasio:

"You still only have one self and one identity. However, self, identity, and personality are not things, they are not objects, and they are certainly not rigid. Instead, they are biological processes built within the brain from numerous interactive components, step by step, over a period of time."

And #2
"The wonder is about the fact that we all woke up this morning and we had with it the amazing return of our conscious mind. We recovered minds w/ a complete sense of our own existence, yet we hardly ever pause to consider this wonder. We should, in fact, because without having this possibility of conscious minds, we would have no knowledge about our humanity. We would have no knowledge about the world. We would have no pains, but also no joys. We would have no access to love or the ability to create."

Sorry, those are really long. But, they relate to the ideas I'm trying to convey through the next couple pieces.

Questions:

I plan on incorporating people sort of lurking about, but should I draw them gesture-y or realistically?

More quotes up front? Yes or no?

Thanks ya'll!

  1. I really like the colors going on in this piece! I think if you're going to put in people they should be more gesturely and loose. Maybe a little more quotes up front but not too much I like the hidden look of them .

  2. I love your interpretation of the photo! I like the idea of adding more quotes. Great work!
