My background was done with two different colors of lipstick, which I used to make the harsh lines. My subject was figure drawing, but I wish I had rethought that due to the size of the paper: I ran out of space, so I feel like the proportions are off. Let me know if you guys think that is a problem! Unfortunately kind of difficult to fix at this point... I did the figure in charcoal pencil and made some highlights in blue watercolor to contrast with the lipstick. I also used some black because the clothes were black in my photo. The scarf on the figure was intended to be the focal point so I added more colors in addition to the blue, but looking at it now, I see the blue runoff on the left side as the real focal point. This project was very much an accident for me! To finish up, I put some black watercolor to make the figure stand out, and dripped blue watercolor to add a rainy effect. Sorry this is so long. Let me know what you guys think.
I personally don't think the proportions are a huge issue. I actually think the color and and line movement counters it pretty well.I feel the pink scarf gets lost as a focal point. Maybe you could've made it pop with more whites or lighter values? Or even added neon? But I love how chaotic it is and enchanting it turned out.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just because I can't see it very well on a computer monitor, but the scarf isn't noticeable enough for a focal point and something like the blue on the side catches more attention. I would try to make the scarf more noticeable by adding more bold and bright colors to it that would contrast with the more washed out tone of the rest of the piece. I don't have any real issues other than that, great work overall.
ReplyDeleteThe lipstick texture in the background is wild, and very expressive! It looks like it was fun to create :)
ReplyDeleteAlthough your figure is pretty dark, I think it contrasts with the background, so it works. I almost feel like your face is the focal point, just because it is so much lighter than the rest of your body? Maybe you could blend the shadow/halo out a little bit more, and have it fade into the background. That might make your figure stand out a bit more. Nice job!
I think the only thing you could do is maybe adding more red to the scarf to make it a bit more vibrant if you want it to be your focal point? Other then that it's moy bueno!
ReplyDeleteI love all the color and the darks :) possibly add a few highlights here an. There around the figure?
