Sienna Proctor Accident Project

This piece was inspired by a buddha statue that I have in my room. For the accident portion I used lipstick and toothpaste, I do like the texture that I created using these two materials. The hand  For the drawing portion I was planning on using ink, watercolor and marker. I found that with the watercolor it smeared the ink and wouldn't stay on top of the toothpaste. Should I add watercolor anyway and just let it smear or let it be? I also liked the idea of the simple background look which is why I didn't have anything much but I was wondering should I add something little to the background? If so what should it be? Thanks for the help!

  1. I know you talked about how you didn't like the watercolor, but I think it looks cool. The ink doesn't look all that bad underneath it, and I feel like it really helps the values pop and gives it a smoother transition from the darks to the lights. For the background, I like the halo you have going on, but maybe it should be extended just a bit to take up some of the negative space. It doesn't have to be dark and it doesn't have to be super eye catching, and doing something like that would still keep it simple. Awesome job, overall :D

  2. To keep the white background from clashing harshly against the pink, you could either water some color down and fade it lightly out, or shade the existing material (lipstick) out, just to make the background cohesive with the piece while keeping it simple. I also like the watercolor in the Buddah, and I also think you could even incorporate that into creating some value and depth within the figure itself! Next time you could just practice on a separate paper beforehand so you get a better idea of how the materials will react..(however, this is the "accident" project, so it kinda works). :) Other than that, I think you had some really great ideas with this piece- I love your use of toothpaste and incorporation of the statue! I think it's really cool, awesome job!

  3. I would add a simple wash to the back ground as it does seem empty. Your figure is mostly surrounded by pinks and reds so I would potentially try to create a light greenish color in the background to contrast with that while still being simple.

  4. I really love your line work in this project. I think you definitely could extend the depth of the figure with darker, more attached lines in he needed areas so that buddha can pop out more. In reguards to the background of the piece. I suggest a lighter, more contrasting color towards the pink. Have you ever thoigh about adding chinese characters all around the statue to influence movement? Overall, a really good one from you Sienna!
