So I made a series of stains from beet juice that I thought resembled flowers, so I got the idea to make this sort of metamorphosis garden scene where the beets grow into flowers around the original stains. The layer after the beet juice was an outline of the scene with calligraphy ink, and the third and final layer was watercolor and colored pencil. My greatest struggle was displaying a variety of values with limited colors, as well as keeping the ink from smudging. My greatest success was probably the vibrancy of the piece as a whole. Also, I'm not sure how valid this is, but could the focal point be the entire lower area with the beets, or should I somehow place focus mainly on the center beet? Does the movement of the flowers provide this on its own? Thanks!
I like the transformation from beet to flower, it was very creative! I also like how you used beet juice, never even crossed my mind to try that! When I look at the piece I immediately focus in on the center beet as well as the beet to the left of it. I agree with you that the flowers provide their own movement. I like how you created a variety of values with limited colors and think you were successful with it. I think that the only thing you could work on would be making the center beet pop more, if thats what you intend to be your focal point but if not then it's perfect! I really love the overall piece!
ReplyDeleteWhen I first look at your piece (which is awesome, by the way!), my eyes immediately go to the beet in the center. In my eyes, I see the harder lines in the details, and I think you should probably focus on one of your beets as the focal point, even if it is just a slightly different color that pulls it form the bunch. I do believe that the flowers provide movement, especially with the drooping stems and the way they push into the background. Super cool! I love the colors and the values throughout the piece. Simply amazing :)
ReplyDeleteThis is one of my favorite pieces of yours so far to be honest! Obviously, once again, your pieces always seem to amaze me with your unique style in line work and color. This piece actually has a very "finished" look to it. The color has blended very well, the lines carry their traditional style in movement, and unity is discovered throughout the piece almost immediately. I'd maybe say to slightly deepen the depth within the intended focal point beet because I can tell it would definitely affect the time it could take someone to identify the focal point. I can understand your difficulty. Great job Sophija
ReplyDeleteThis piece is really beautiful. I like the center beet as the focal point.
ReplyDeleteI love this piece so much. Your style is very consistent and unique! The colors are so vibrant, and the swirly pattern flowing throughout creates nice movement. The front beet almost reminds me of a planet.. maybe Jupiter? I don't think you need to do much else in terms of a focal point, as the center beet stands out.
