The Accident Project
Anna D
This lovely piece of... something... is my accident project. I always had a special bond with toilets and bathrooms because of my job in sanitation. I used hot, liquid, lemon jello to simulate urine and hot chocolate to look like the splatter marks of something I would see at work (if you can imagine and put that and this together. You get the picture). I used India Ink and brushed it on with a watercolor brush.
I struggled with getting the papers to stick to the projects because I realized too late that the paper I used was not rice paper (thus the smears of the bottom toilet). I tried to incorporate it to getting movement in by using the floating toilet papers up to the focal point of an exploding toilet. I have been told it is "very Anna."
Do you think I could've brought out my focal point more with the blue? I felt the images looked like clip-art so I tried not to make it complex but I'm not sure how successful I was.
What's your opinion on the movement? Is it obvious enough? My mother said she didn't see it (but she's not an artsy person to my knowledge) but I feel I was able to get the eye to follow across the page to the focal point.
And do you think I could have gone more detailed with the toilets or that it's fine the way it is? I just wasn't sure how successful I was at trying to find that "happy medium."
Thanks guys!
I think the movement is subtle but still easily noticeable. I think the bold outlines of the designs really make the piece as a whole stand out and attract attention. I think the top left subject could use a little more detail possibly but the amount of blue on the right subject seems to be just enough to be your focal point.
ReplyDeleteThe movement is really good! I think the focal point could use more blue since it's smaller. Other than that I think you're set!
ReplyDeleteI think that the piece has a lot of movement. My eye starts at the top left and then follows the objects around to the bottom right. I love how you have the stylized drawings- they definitely work. Maybe you could have the blue drip down and flow more throughout the piece? That might help establish the focal point.
ReplyDeleteWow I love this piece! It's one of your best! It's minimal but gets the point across. I think the blue is the starting point for your path and the paper airplanes lead your eyes threw the rest of the piece. Like Mira said perhaps the dripping blue water would help leading your eye's further?
