My intention of this piece was to have a slightly shaded portrait similar to my last project (girl with embroidered tears). I originally was planning to have more dramatic shading in charcoal but then decided against it when the medium just wasn't working well with the ricepaper. I'm planning to go ahead and plaster my rice paper on my canvas tomorrow and goldleaf her lips and bobby pins over the weekend. Do you think I need more shading or is it simplified enough not to? Also I think I may do an all red background or a pattern or something? And suggestions on that? Thanks children!
Im not a child, child. I think you should add a little bit more shading to the face, though to bring out the features more. And for the background, red would be cool and give it a fierce look, but, if you wanted to NOT say fierce, I'd go with a baby blue. Awesome job though, looks brulicioius.

ReplyDeleteI love the red background idea!! It will look really cool with the gold. Because of that, I don't think you need to add a bunch of shading.
ReplyDeleteYES. RED BACKGROUND. PLEASE. If you do that in acrylic paint though I would suggest going over the face in ink, if that doesn't skew your idea too much. And I think the shading you have already is great. You can leave it as is or you can add more, either way it will be fine.
ReplyDeleteI would shade a bit more, especially in defining the hair and features. Shade to define it, but definitely don't lose the nice simplicity in the process. Also, I would add a few more details in the eyes and hair, just to make it pop. I think it'll look great when it's done! I think the goldleaf will be a cool addition.
ReplyDeleteI think that the red background will definitely work nicely! I love your idea of adding the gold leaf as well think it'll make your project pop! I agree with Joanna that you don't have to add a bunch of shading.
